TECHNOLOGICAL DISRUPTIONS: The Interplay of Subjective Flaws and Virtual Space

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Attempting to honor everyone who assisted me in creating this project is a monumental task, and it is a task that I will inevitably fail. Regardless, I'll still give it my best shot. I hope that the reader will understand that this will always be a partial list of acknowledgements, and that I am grateful for everyone who decided to support me on this journey and make my work what it is today.

I'll begin with my thesis advisor, Prof. Marisa Parham, who was a catalyst in my academic trajectory—and in more ways than one. There was the process of developing this thesis and its frameworks (which fittingly began as a conversation we had over the definition of "glitch"), but Prof. Parham also came into my Amherst experience at the perfect time. Just as I wanted to explore my interdisciplinary concepts through academia, she was there to guide me to the resources and ideas that I'd need to make it happen. I'm honored to have worked on this thesis and this undergraduate experience with her, and I hope that she is as proud of it all as I am.

Prof. Shayla Lawson helped make my experience over the summer of 2019 possible, and she helped me explore new creative avenues through her Hybrid Forms class. Without her encouragement and guidance I wouldn't be sharing The Manual or my many formative experiences with new media artists worldwide. I can't thank her enough for welcoming me into her circles and I'm excited to see what is next for her.

Both the Amherst senior and junior cohorts of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship, my program director Rosemary Effiom, and the many people who we met through MMUF over the past two years all deserve my sincere appreciation. It's difficult to verbalize the impact they've all had on me and my plans for postgraduate life, but I can confirm that their influence was important and it will continue to be important. Graduating with a group of scholars as friends is a wonderful time.

Prof. Amanda Henrichs has been an exciting part of my senior year, and she provided me with a real example of a digital humanist thriving in their practice. I appreciate her reading through this work along with Prof. Josh Guilford, who had insightful comments on my ideas that I hope to incorporate into the next iteration of my project.

Francois Knoetze, DJ Squeezy, and so many other new media artists are the ones defining that "bleeding edge" Tung-Hui Hu was talking about. I'm so happy they deemed me cool enough to enter their worlds of transformative art in 2019, and I hope that it won't be for the last time.

My parents helped me to realize the many paths I could take in creating work, in academia, creative writing, and beyond. I am forever grateful for their confidence in my capabilities.

Finally, I want to thank Tara for being the supporter and partner that I've needed throughout my undergraduate experience. She never stops being an inspiration.

I hope we all continue to make the world question itself.
